Andrew Holpuch and our Garrettsville Dental Group team are pleased to be able to offer dental crowns for our patients in Garrettsville, Ohio and the neighboring communities. A dental crown may be used to repair a smile that is experiencing any of the following dental conditions:

#1-Cracked Tooth Syndrome

If you ever feel pain when biting down on a particular tooth or area in your mouth, it is possible that you have a cracked tooth. Small cracks that may or may not show up on an X-ray, or which lie under the gum, may be what is known as cracked tooth syndrome. Chewing can exert pressure on the fracture lines, creating pain. When a dental crown is placed on the tooth, the stress on the fractures is distributed evenly, effectively relieving tooth pain.

#2-Large Dental Filling

There are times when a tooth’s decay covers more than half of the width of the tooth. In this scenario, a dental crown will restore the tooth’s function and appearance while avoiding further damage to the tooth. Crowns reinforce and strengthen teeth, whereas a filling, at least a large one, can compromise the structural integrity of a tooth, even making it vulnerable to fracture.

#3-Root Canal Procedure

When you have had a root canal procedure performed, placing a dental crown is an excellent solution for restoring the tooth. Placing a crown after decay is hollowed out of a tooth helps prevent the tooth from cracking further.

#4-Worn Down Tooth

Teeth can be worn down from a variety of causes. You can wear down a tooth by constantly grinding or clenching your teeth–known as bruxism—which can wear down tooth enamel and fracture teeth over time.

Another cause of a worn down tooth is acid erosion which weakens tooth enamel over time. With acid erosion, you may notice hollows in the tooth along with worn down biting edges and tooth surfaces. Erosion can arise from eating and drinking acidic foods and beverages, or even from bulimia or acid reflux.
